2011 Bike/Run Season Recap

The 2011 season marked the first season for my oldest, Karl John Tillman, to complete a full Junior WORS series.  Also, by competing and finishing in all 12 races he become a WORS HEAD at 11 years of age.  Back in April he made the decision on his own to join the Bikes LTD / Scenic Concepts Team.  I purchased for him a Specialized Hard Rock bike and told him to just have fun and make new friends...and that's just what he did.  In fact, he told me at the end of the season that he wanted to do it all over again in 2012.  The things that make a dad happy.

Michele took up the WORS Trail Run series for a third season.  In 2010 she was able to finish out first in both age group and overall in 10k.  A year later she did well again pulling through 2nd in age and overall categories.  Great job Hun!

As many of you already know, USA cycling granted me my pro license in April of 2011.  It was always a goal of mine to race on a professional level.  But do I have what it takes?  If my results from the 2011 race season were used exclusively to weigh this question, the answer would be know.  Due to over training, not enough recovery, a road crash which gave me lingering back problems, the wrong kind of training, and the delicate balance between my full time job and training, my 2011 season did not show the potential I have.
However, after a little political arm pulling I'll be racing Cat. 1 for 2012 and working my way through the ranks once again.  Hopefully proving by the end of the season that I do have the potential to race professionally again.  Wish me luck.

  1. Karl, you need white grips and a carbon frame to be "Pro".

  2. Used to use white grips...can't afford a carbon frame yet. Maybe in a few years...unless someone wants to donate some green?
