"Holland to the Cut" Classics Report

For the 2017 Classic, the Coulee Bicycle Company of Onalaska teamed up with the Wisconsin Bike Federation and Red Pines Restaurant in Brice Prairie to host a ride through the Town of Holland, Mindoro Cut, and many roads in between.

My bicycle of choice was a Fat Bike outfitted with Vee Rubber Chicanes.  These are beautiful tires and run as smooth as a train on ice.  In preparation, I brought my Skratch Labs Cap and my Sockguy Panda Power foot gloves.

Coming off a hard ride Saturday, I wasn't sure how the body would react.  The Parking lot of Red Pines was filled with a 100+ avid cyclists ready to sweat in the 70 degree weather and brave the 53 mile ride.  There was even a seasoned cyclist/mechanic/Legend wondering why the weird dude on the fat bike was taking his picture minutes before the ride.

The ride started out and I found a little quiet spot out of the wind protected by my thin tire friends for the first 25 miles.  These Spring Classics pride themselves on mutliple groups on the road that ride at variable speeds. Everything was going well until it dawned on me that I was on a Fat Bike. This had never been a problem before, but soon took its toll and I fell off the back on the descent down the Mindoro Cut.  It's still April and I'll need to make some adjustments keeping up with the skinny tires when Fat.  Thanks to the Wisconsin Bicycle Federation and local hubs for putting on a great event!
